New Smaller Club Certificate Program
Smaller clubs often face unique challenges in their membership development efforts. However, increasing membership by even a few members pays big dividends. To encourage smaller-club efforts, the RI Board of Directors recently established the Recognition of Smaller Club Membership Growth program, which honors the achievements of small clubs who make growth a priority and succeed.

Adapting to local conditions, our district has proposed the following scheme:

The program has begun 1 July, recognizing clubs in the following categories that meet the membership goal by December 2007:
Club Category Membership Goal
Fewer than 10 members At least 15 members
10-14 members At least 20 members
15-24 members At least 25 members
We have recently received a list of the clubs in the district with fewer than 20 members. If your club has fewer than 20/25 members, you should be establishing a membership action plan for Dec 2007. If your club reached its membership goal your club is eligible to receive a recognition certificate.

Attention: All Rotarians – All Clubs A District Committee has been set up on – "Club Revitalization Plan"

Sunday, July 1st 2007

with an objective to identify weaker clubs, not so strong clubs and those needing special attention and assist them transform into truly viable, effective, performing and strong enough by injecting Revitalization Plan, thus realize the said objective within a limited timeframe through the joint involvement of Rotarians concerned at club and district level.

"Everything rises and falls on leadership.

"The more you try to do in life, the more you will find that leadership makes the difference. "Personnel determines the potential of the organization.
"Relationships determine the morale of the organization.
"Structure determines the size of the organization.
"Vision determines the direction of the organization.
"Leadership determines the success of the organization.

Stronger clubs alone will make Rotary stronger.

District Committee aims to help revitalize clubs on their aspects of weaknesses, shortcomings and specific points needing special attention. This will be done with the active involvement and cooperation of the Rotarians in clubs.

Obvious items coming under priority agenda would cover critical attention on-

Overall potential leadership development of Rotarians at all levels as compared to mere assigned job skills adequacy.

(Appropriate leadership development - Must be continuing, successive and sustainable. Such clubs can carry on well enough on long term.  Although we call each Rotarian a leader, why not we make him or her really so, instead of just calling, so that he or she becomes a true asset to Rotary.  Not stopping merely at the scheduled job training programmes of Rotary, which makes him or her possibly fit only for the job of the year, and not necessarily make him a good potential leader, we must give tremendous practical exposure and experience to the Rotarians to be true Rotarians of value and impart specialized leadership skills going long way, not just getting applied in Rotary matters but also automatically in-built personally into his personality.)

Well-informed and adequately knowledgeable Rotarians on Rotary topics with important updates.

(Basic knowledge, information, procedures, are grossly lacking amongst Rotarians, new or not so new and even old, thus not really understanding and getting to the feel of true Rotary. Communicating pride as being a 'Rotarian' should be happening.)

Rotarians' practical ability to recognize challenges and apply sustainable solutions and long lasting reforms.

(Just as we exhibit appropriate leadership in matters of family, business, hobbies, personals etc we must ensure that the Rotarians stretch their leadership skills and talents in Rotary matters at all.)

Envisioning long term and short term strategic planning and its measurable follow-up to make up shortcomings.

(There should be a long term strategic plan and short term rolling three to five year continuing plan of the district and clubs with full understanding of the immediate past, serving and the next three leaderships at those levels together.  This should lead to healthy and respectful environment for all of us to work together, and enjoy Rotary.)

Addressing intricacies of membership number game, retentivity, quality and PR.

(Quantitatively - Clubs with number of members less than 20 or on borderline are weak. Such clubs cannot be effective.  Desired 25 plus. Making fresh and lasting in-roads for membership growth, is a must. Tapping community, youth, Rotaract and Foundation Alumni and womanfolk, reducing the average age of the clubs, are some issues.  Special effort required for - Rotarians' movement in society and impact of Rotary work for the community does not truly reach the masses, to get acknowledged.  To be frank, Rotary is not known,)

Grasping the true concept of fellowship, friendship and family of Rotary leading to the ownership sense and attachment.

(We must bring back good attendance, fellowship and friendship, and inculcate genuine Rotary spirit and inviting environment and culture in our L' affaire Rotary. Nothing should takeover inter-personal relationship. If so, at that moment, the leadership ceases! Success at the cost of relations and respect is no success.  Special personalized approach automatically convert Rotarians to develop the feeling of ownership for our Foundation. The Alumni, the scholars and IYEs and GSEs have to be brought into the Rotary fold with pointed efforts and result oriented serious plan.)
Obligations for attendance, participation in service projects, volunteering to responsibilities and dues fulfillment.

(Qualitatively - Effective service projects-wise are non-performing clubs. Excepting few ones, community does n't feel very high about us honestly.  Administratively and financially - Systems, procedures, monies inadequacy of clubs, lead to serious difficulties in their existence. Dues default is another problem. Motivation, recognition and respectful environment with sense of belonging play very important role. )

Top level stewardship in all financial matters and discipline in statutory matters.

(Nothing is complete without proper paperwork, compilation, report and submission. Following the rules and procedures becomes a must)
On dot and precise communication system amongst all will improve overall efficacy and efficiency in dealing amongst Rotarians.

(It is high time, we must have properly established professionally designed communication system amongst all levels and entities in the district.  We should go corporate style. We should use technology. We must change in technology with this modern time, and quickly shift to e-communication, overall IT-enabled services, leading all hard copy correspondence to a paperless one, as far as feasible.)
