Rotary Literacy Month Arrange a District Literacy Day for club representative to attend. Invite a speaker to a club meeting, discuss literacy topics, discuss items like problems adults fact when trying to become literate and generate ideas of how to overcome these.

Focus on Hospitals Read to patients, provide reading materials like magazines, books etc. It might also be possible to run literacy classes or computer classes for the staff if there is a need.

Celebrate International Reading Day The International Reading Day is designated as September 8th. This is a useful day to highlight and to use as a tool for drawing attention to literacy in general. The Resources Team will will be able to provide the exact date from year to year.

Character Building and Ethics month Give information and provide materials of an ethical nature to school and other institutions, groups and people which promote moral and cultural values.

Foundation Grants for literacy Matching Grants, Simplified Grants and all other grants from the Rotary Foundation are always available but since this is Rotary Foundation month it is another opportunity to remind Rotarians that this great resource is there to be used.

Book month for gifts This is a great opportunity for giving gifts of books, particularly to under privileged people and children. Also consider giving books as prize for achievements at underprivileged schools and even other institutions and groups (like boy scouts and girl guides)

Sport literacy focus Use sport and games as a focus and particularly, as in the months below as well, get the bulletin editor to publish at least one article relating to literacy using the focus of the month.

Literacy on Famous people in history Use well known characters to create interest and to be a focus.

World book day (Book Aid) See (2) Free books for children in need below.

Cook Books International Use well known chefs and recipes to draw attention and be a focus this month.

Literacy on Health focus Focus on health matters and fitness to create awareness of literacy during this month.

Celebrate Awards Use this month to celebrate the achievements and projects of the successful clubs. They will be the ones who had members who made the most of the literacy focus this year.
