     Literacy

Dear Presidents and Leaders in the 1st year of new century of service to mankind -Congratulations!!!
Literacy projects allow Rotarians to make a creative contribution to building nations, reducing poverty & opening opportunities to those who need them. You are going to make difference in many lives because you have decided to participate in the "Literacy" program of Rotary International.I had already conveyed to you general theme via my letter and report dated 30th April 2005.

Let me start with the District Goals again

  • Girl's literacy - 100 girl's minimum

  • Women Literacy - 25 women minimum

  • Visit and provide information and ideas to clubs

  • Report the activities taken by clubs to district

  • Donate used Computers
  •
Rotary international President Rtn.Carl Wilhem Stenhammar and District Governor Rtn. Dr. Mahesh Kotbagi, want us do lot of activities to promote "literacy" and take-up projects for each sector of our societies. Are you ready for it and to provide further information, I am glad to send some more guidelines to you. However, this publication would not be beneficial unless we act on it. My fellow Rotarians and leaders of clubs, please act and give our communities what they deserve. Let us start by donating used computers and district team will help you to put up required software on it.

Let me know your "actions" to reduce illiteracy or promote literacy.
Looking forward to see you in action!

    Yours in Rotary.
    Rtn.Vishwanath Bellad
District Chairman - Literacy Resource Group.

ROTARY INTERNATIONAL - World Literacy in Action
Check LIST AND GET CLUBS TO SEEK out projects initially that would help illiterate people learn to read and write. It is our feeling that illiterate people will remain locked in a cycle of poverty until they succeed in overcoming that burden. It is recommended that district contacts use the theme months as displayed below to motivate clubs and bring literacy to the notice of the district.
